INFORMATION ON USING OVERGLAZE DECORATIVE PAINTS General information Overglaze paints, supplied in powder form, are mixed with a suitable water-based or solvent-based medium at approximately 30-40% and thoroughly crushed before being applied to the previously glazed and fired piece. The paint/medium ratio may vary depending on the application method and type of paint. Some paints accept more medium. Application can be done with a brush or by screen printing, as desired. If the application thickness is too much, the surface of the colored layer will not have the desired properties. Therefore, very thick applications and multiple prints on top of each other should be avoided. Recommended screen sizes; 120 for multi-layer applications, 70 for single-layer applications. Firing process; 780-800 degrees for 3-4 minutes for enamel; For ceramics, 20-30 minutes at 820-850 degrees Celsius is recommended. The time required for the kiln to reach its operating temperature and for the temperature of the piece to be evenly distributed across the entire surface should be considered. For best results, the glaze applied previously to the piece should be fired at a higher temperature. A correctly applied and fired paint should have a smooth and glossy surface. If a water-based medium is used, cleaning is done with water; if a solvent-based medium is used, thinner is used. Lightening white is used to lighten the color of the paints. If desired, a thin layer of opaque white can be applied under light colors applied to a dark background to make the color more prominent. Almost all paints are miscible with each other, but chemical interactions during firing may occur, resulting in undesirable colors. Paints containing cadmium can be mixed with each other in any proportion, but only with other paints in specific proportions. If the ratio is incorrect, the color may be distorted. For good results with red paints, they should be fired for a short time at the given temperature. If the temperature and time are exceeded, the color will fade. Pink paints do not develop in a reducing environment. If the pink color does not develop... The temperature is low or there is too much gas inside the kiln. All ceramic paints are the result of different crystal structures formed by many different chemical substances together at high temperatures. They can be harmful if swallowed or inhaled.
