• INFORMATION ON THE USE OF OVERGLAZE DECORATIVE PAINTS
• Overglaze paints, which are supplied in powder form, are mixed with a suitable water-based or solvent-based medium at a ratio of approximately 30-40%, crushed thoroughly, and applied to the previously glazed and fired piece.
• The paint/medium ratio may vary depending on the application method and the type of paint.
• Application can be done with a brush or screen printing as desired,
• If the application thickness is too much, the surface of the colored layer will not have the desired properties,
• Therefore, very thick applications and multiple prints on top of each other should be avoided,
• Recommended screen sizes; 120 mm for multi-layer applications, 70 mm for single-layer applications. Baking process;
• For enamel, 780-800 degrees for 3-4 minutes; For ceramics, 20-30 minutes at 820-850 degrees,
• The time it takes for the kiln to reach its operating temperature and for the temperature of the fired piece to be evenly distributed across the entire surface should be taken into consideration,
• For best results, the glaze previously applied to the piece must have been fired at a higher temperature,
• The surface of a correctly applied and fired paint should be smooth and shiny,
• If a water-based medium is used, cleaning is done with water; if a solvent-based medium is used, cleaning is done with thinner,
• Lightening white is used to lighten the color of the paints,
• Use white under the light colors to be applied on a dark background. If desired, a thin layer of opaque white can be applied to make the color more prominent. Almost all paints can be mixed with each other, but the expected colors may not be obtained due to chemical interaction during firing. Paints containing cadmium can be mixed with each other in any proportion, and with other paints only in certain proportions. The color may be spoiled if the ratio is not appropriate. To obtain good results from red paints, they should be fired for a short time at the given temperature. If the temperature and time are exceeded, the color will fade. Pink paints do not develop in a reducing environment. If pink color does not develop, either the temperature is too low or there is too much gas in the kiln. All ceramic paints are a mixture of many different chemical substances. It is the result of the different crystal structures formed at high temperatures.
