Manganese Aging is fired to create a warm metallic finish that exhibits brown breaks in the texture.
When used in combination, Manganese Aging will add brown variation and movement to glazes. The amount of movement achieved by using Manganese in combination depends on how much of each product is applied; how many coats and how many different products are used; and the performance of the glaze it is paired with. For example, layering Manganese Aging with a glossy glaze that exhibits breaks in the texture will create more movement than layering it with an opaque matte glaze.
Due to the movement that occurs during layering, we recommend applying Manganese Aging only to the top 2/3 of the piece when layering with other glazes. It gives great results when applied with a brush to the edge of a piece or in a pattern with a glaze trailer. Manganese Aging also works great as a body stain.
